Paleolithic craftwork was practical rather than decorative; it included such things as flint tools (knives, awls, etc.) and basic pottery.
Paleolithic refers to the suffix and prefix Paleo(Ancient, Old), and Lithic(Stone). During the paleolithic era no concrete human society existed and all of humanity was nomadic. What characterizes the Paleolithic Age is the emergence of tools and nomadic tendencies among humans, before the Neolithic (Age of Civilzations), but after primitve human emergence after African Migration.

Archaeological remains such as tools, cave paintings, and artifacts found at sites like Lascaux in France and Altamira in Spain. Analysis of ancient DNA and isotopes from skeletons provide insights into the diet and migration patterns of Paleolithic humans. Studies of modern hunter-gatherer societies help us understand how Paleolithic humans may have lived and organized their societies.
Evidence of humans living during the Paleolithic Era has been found in various regions around the world, including Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas. Examples of archaeological sites with Paleolithic remains include Altamira Cave in Spain, Olduvai Gorge in Tanzania, and Chauvet Cave in France. These sites contain tools, art, and other artifacts left behind by early human populations.

Early modern humans (Homo sapiens) were the humanoids who made Aurignacian tools and produced artwork in caves. They lived during the Upper Paleolithic period, around 40,000 to 28,000 years ago, and are known for their sophisticated tools and cave art found in places like Chauvet Cave in France and Altamira Cave in Spain.
they made hand axes and hunted with spears
We can only surmise what tools made from wood paleolithic people may have used, because they did not survive. The only ones we have are stone ones. The first stone tools were probably found objects, for instance naturally sharp edged pebbles, but this progressed to deliberate flaking of stones to produce sharp edges.http://www.anth.ucsb.edu/faculty/stsmith/classes/anth3/courseware/LithicTech/6_Lower_Paleolithic_Tool.html
