Elves didn't exist in medieval times - but people would have imagined them to wear woollen or linen smocks or cloaks - since that is what poor country folk in general wore.

They were a small leather boot type shoe. No right/left feet and no hard sole. They would slip on or use laces to close the shoe so it would stay on. I have a pair made in the "old way" and they are pretty comfortable to wear.
The clothing of peasants was basic, practical and not decorated. Men wore a short woollen tunic belted at the waist over short woollen trousers. He would wear a small hat over a woollen cowl and boots on his feet. The women would wear a woollen dress over a woollen underskirt. Medieval people generally wore some sort of tunic- a simple cloth hung over the body with a belt tied across. Peasantry would wear trousers, or for women, skirts. Noblemen would wear tights and the women would wear dresses and both would wear lots of jewellery (much of which was religious). And of course, monks would wear robes and knights would wear armour.
People would be forced to wear bells in medieval times because they committed a crime, such as rape. They forced the rapist to wear the bell to warn others when they were in close proximity.
