Columbus thought he was in India, and in his way to Asia, the land he founded was the island of Hispaniola, what we now know as Haiti, and Dominican Republic.
Christopher Columbus did not conquer land in the traditional sense but is credited with the European discovery of the Americas. His first voyage in 1492 led him to the Bahamas, specifically an island he named San Salvador, and later to parts of Hispaniola (present-day Haiti and the Dominican Republic) and Cuba. Columbus's expeditions opened the door for subsequent European exploration and colonization of the Americas, but he did not establish permanent colonies or control over the lands he encountered.
Not exactly sure on how long he was at sea at least a month possibly two, and he first landed in La Hispanola, Which is now currently dominican repulic, my wife is dominican but i did not know this for a long time. Juan Ponce De Leon was actually the first because Christopher Columbus actually landed in the Bahamas and Juan landed in Puerto Rico and Dominican republic and Florida .

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

Hispaniola was the first North American land spotted by the crew of Christopher Columbus. He landed on the shore of that large island in October of 1492. It is presently the nations of the Dominican Republic and Haiti.
Hispaniola (the island that has become the Dominican Republic and Haiti) was discovered by Christopher Columbus. On his second trip to the island he founded the first Spanish colony in the new world. Christopher Columbus's brother, Bartholomew Columbus, also established a settlement on another part of the island. In short, the Spanish explorers were responsible for the colonization of Hispaniola, although they later last the land that is modern-day Haiti to the French.
