Before his flight , Rudolph Hess served as Adolph Hitler's right-hand man in the capacity of Deputy Fuhrer which was a position within the Nazi government that was second only to Hitler himself who was Fuhrer . Rudolph Hess remained a prisoner in Spandau Prison in Germany until his death the 17th of August 1987 .
