Feudalism is said to have started with the defeat of King Harold by William the Conqueror in The Battle of Hastings in 1066. With the defeat of King Harold was the defeat of Anglo-saxon rule of England. But originally, it was the Germans and Romans ideas that formed the basis of Feudalism.

When Rome fell there was no government, no services, no protection so people needed to be guided and the strongest rose to the task. They become the nobility and everyone else falls into place as one of the three estates of nobility, church, or peasant .
