On October 21, he finally discovered the strait he had been seeking. The Strait of Magellan, as it became known, is located near the tip of South America, separating Tierra del Fuego and the continental mainland. :)

Ferdinand Magellan never traveled to North America. Magellan was a Portuguese-born Spanish explorer who was ordered to find a new trade route to the Spice Islands (now Indonesia) and did so by sailing across the Atlantic, around the tip of South America, and across the Pacifica. He was murdered in a battle when his crew landed in the Philippines so he was unable to complete the entire journey himself.

The 1519-1522 expedition led by Ferdinand Magellan was the first to circumnavigate the globe, and thus the first to discover the sea route around Cape Horn, at the tip of South America.
To find the northwest passage and in between north and south America
he went to Indonesia to find spice and he sailed through the westard passage!
His was the first expedition to travel around the world, although he died en-route. (The trip was finished after his death in Guam, in 1522. ) He sailed around the tip of A South America, and found a westward passage, which was named after him the 'Strait of Magellan'. He was the first to find a new ocean. It was calm and peaceful, so he named it Pacific.
Ferdinand Magellan's goals were to find a western route to the Spice Islands, to see South America and the animals there also to find El Paso and to stay within Spain's territory.
