The name Buffalo Soldier was a nickname the Native Americans gave to the Black Calvary of the US Army's 9th and 10th Regiments because of their combat prowess bravery, tenaciousness, and their appearance on the battlefield.

Mark Matthews born 1894 - four years after the first generation Buffalo Soldiers. Matthews was a Second Generation Buffalo Soldier who died at the age of 111 in 2005. To find to last Buffalo Soldier of the Indian Wars, one would have to go to Washington, D. C. and research all the records of the first generation of Buffalo Soldiers.
