Officially, The NSDAP (National Socialist German Worker's Party) came to power on 30 January, 1933, when Reich President Paul von Hindenburg appointed Adolf Hitler to be Reich Chancellor. There were at that time other political parties in Germany; i.e Social Democrats, Catholic Centrist and, of course, the Communists among others. But Hitler soon convinced Reich President von Hindenburg that Germany was on the brink of civil war, passing what was known as the "Enabling Act" which Hitler used to outlaw all other political parties in Germany. This is a very simplistic version of a very complicated history.
During the German Wiemar Republic election of 1932, Hitler failed to receive the majority of votes for presidency. However, the Nazi party had 230 members on the German council, this was the biggest group at that time. However in 1933, Hitler was appointed to chancellor of Germany by Paul Von Hindenburg. After the infamous Reichstag fire allowed Hitler to convince Germany action needed to be taken to prevent communist subversion. The origins of the fire have never been discovered, with people believing it was a conspiracy by the Nazis. In the aftermath of the fire Hitler managed to convince the Reichstag to grant him emergency powers, this allowed him to create laws without the consent of the Reichstag. This was passed 441 to 84, a huge majority. Hitler used these powers destroy German democracy. When Hindenburg died, Hitler officially became dictator.
FASCISTS!
The Reichstag fire took place during an election campaign. The Nazis blamed the Communists for the fire and immediately banned them from taking part in the election. Hitler used the Reichstag fire to create a panic that made it easy for him to extend rule by decree. The elections took place a week later (5 March 1933) and Hitler soon got legislation passed allowing him unlimited rule by decree.
Proportional representation
the SS and the Gestapo could arrest anyone that they thought opposed the Nazis or was a threat to them without a trial. This would scare people that opposed them so they would support the Nazis instead The SS also ran concentration camps which would imprison the other political parties and anyone that was anti-Nazi leaving the Nazis as the only party in the Reichstag
This was the Nazis party. They would eventually come to power with Hitler at the head and bring Germany out of the Depression and starting WWII.
The largest party in the Reichstag following the elections in July 1932 was the NSDAP (Nazis) with 230 out of 608 members. In the elections of November 1932 they suffered significant losses and won only 196 seats, but they were still the larrgest party.
Who started the fire is not entirely certain. The blame was placed on a Marinus van der Lubbe (although it is likely taht he was either forced to by the Nazi Party or was framed by them).
The Nazi party became the largest political party in Germany following the 6th Reichstag elections on July 31, 1932. As a result of the election the Nazi party received 37.3% of the popular vote (an increase of 19%) and 230 seats in the Reichstag (an increase of 123)
The Reichstag building in Berlin was set on fire in 1933, and it was used by the Nazi Party to justify the repression of their political opponents. The event, known as the Reichstag fire, played a significant role in helping the Nazis consolidate power and establish a totalitarian regime in Germany.
A Dutch Communist was arrested at the scene. However, there has been speculation that he was framed and the Nazis were involved. Certainly, Hitler persuaded President Hindenburg to pass the Reichstag Fire Decree, declaring a state of emergency. The Nazis also won the largest number of seats in the following election.
hitler worked hard
After the Great Depression, the people of Germany realized the democratic central government was not doing its job of keeping the economy stable. Thus people started to vote for the far right (the NAZIs) and the far left (the communists). During one of the elections, the Nazis were a few seats short of a majority by votes, so the Nazis played on the Red Scare and outlawed the communist party. Without the communist party as its rival, Hitler was able to obtain a majority in the government.
In the summer elections of 1932
Well Hitler said communitsts caused the fire, and blamed the wholem so the thing on the communists. Then the Nazis persuaded Hindenburg to declare martial law for the sake of public safety communists Party was disbanded, eliminating Nazi's greatest competition. Therefore Hitler's party, the Nazis, gained more power.
The burning of the Reichstag did help the Nazis take power. A dutch counsil communist Marinus van der Lubbe was arrested and charged with starting the blaze and this was found to be very valuable to the Nazi party. The public believed that the Blaze had been a sign of a Communist revolution and this is when the Nazis takeover of power grew even stronger with a worried public behind them.
The Nazi was the party and Hitler ran as a member of the party. Just like Trump ran as a member of the Republican Party.
