Tiziano Vecellio was one of the greatest Venetian painters. Starting at age 10, while living with his uncle in Venice, he studied under Zuccato a mosaicst, Giovanni, and assisted Giorgione. Giovanni's influence can been seen in his early work. Titian assisted Giorgione with the paintings for the Fondaco del Tedeschi in 1508 and complete many of his works. The first works that are attributable to Titian alone are the three frescoes of scenes in the life of St. Anthony at Padua in 1511. By 1530 he was painting for Emperor Charles V and painted many notables assembled for the Augsburg peace conference. Titian was supported by his many noble patrons and well taken care of. He died August 27, 1576 during a plague epidemic, but not of the plague. He is buried in the church of S. Maria del Frari in Venice. He influenced later painters through his use of color.
