In 1850, Levi Strauss & Co. invented the first blue jeans. The company, founded by Levi Strauss, created durable trousers made from denim, originally designed for gold miners and laborers. Denim was first made in France. The material was originally called serge and was first produces in Nimes. They used to call is serge de Nimes, and later shortened it to denim.
