There's no way to know. There are ancient writings that describe disease that sounds like gonorrhea.
It wasn't until 1879 that gonorrhea was discovered by Albert Neisser. This was called Neisseria gonorrhoeae, a Gram-negative coffee bean - shaped diplococci (bacteria). It probably had been around much longer but this discovery proved what microbe caused it. It was mentioned in letters from the Civil War and was called clap.
