Fort Necessity was built by George Washington. He saw the French and their fort, Fort Duquesne. George Washington was forced to surrender.
Brigadier General Edward Braddock's forces were not directly involved at Fort Necessity; rather, it was the French and their Native American allies who defeated the British forces there. The British commander at Fort Necessity, Colonel George Washington, was compelled to surrender on July 3, 1754, during the French and Indian War. This surrender marked one of the early conflicts in the war and highlighted the challenges faced by the British in North America.
Well, honey, George Washington built Fort Necessity in southwestern Pennsylvania during the French and Indian War. Unfortunately for ol' George, he had to surrender the fort to the French in 1754. Guess even the Father of Our Country had his off days.

No war started at Fort Necessity. The Battle of Fort Necessity was an early engagement in what Americans call the French and Indian War and others call the Seven Years War. George Washington eventually surrendered the Fort to French forces, and in the process he signed a surrender document that the French used as one pretext for their continued belligerency.
It was called Fort Necessity. Washington was soon forced to surrender it to the French.
