The last execution to take place at the Tower of London was on Thursday, August 14, 1941.=The inmate was Josef Jakobs who was a German spy. He was shot by a firing squad comprised of eight men. He was not able to stand due to an ankle injury and he therefore was forced to be tied up in a Windsor chair. A piece of white lint was pinned above his heart so the firing squad could have a target to shoot at. Five of the eight shots hit the piece of lint and Jakobs died at 7:12am.=
