Mainly in the 1950s. They were named after the Edwardian style clothing that was introduced after the second world war.
In England, during the '60's and perhaps even today, a "Teddy boy" was what they called their street punks. Pretty much like the street punks of the U.S. They're the ones with limited intelligence who have little to offer society and are generally so afraid of everything around them that they have to gang up with others of like mind in order to feel safe. what a load of rubbish. Teddy Boys was a fashion of the 1950's in the UK, and was a bastardised version of the edwardian styles earlier in the centuary. The Teddy boy inmage was typicaly followed by the working class, and Rock n roll and Rockabilly was the music they listlened to. Teddy boys all worked hard as the clothes they wore were expensive. The Drape Coat they wore had to be tailer made, and the Tony Curtis hair cut had to be cut regularly. Yes the Teds got into fights, but what youth did not.

I am not sure that there is any specific name for the boys from Edinburgh. You may be thinking of the term Teddy Boys, but Teddy wasn't a reference to Edinburgh but to Edwardian, this was because of their Edwardian style of clothing.

The are big shoes that teddy boys wear.
The name has nothing to do with Teddy Roosevelt! the Teddy Boys were a sort of generic term for juvenile delinquents. they affected the Edwardian or double-breasted jacket style- and this is said to inspire the name. they were a lawless bunch of punks- so to speak, and this is not an organized movement even akin to the Hippies which at least had the anti-war Peace motive. Not so with the Teds, as they were sometimes called. the Popular song ( Street-fighting man) which may have been banned in some cities ( like Chicago in l968 comes close to a ( TEDDY BOY) ideology. violence for its own sake, yecch!
