The Battle of Antietam would at its time be a remarkable one. It resulted in the dismissal of George B. McClellan as leader of the Army of the Potomac. The battle sadly marked the deadliest battle in US history in that a total 15,000 men would be killed in a short amount of time.

I believe the first shots of this battle were fired by Union forces between 6 and 6:30 AM on the 16th of September, 1862.
