Because Darius fleed
Hyrcanus and Aristobulus, the two sons of the Jewish King Yannai (Johanan Hyrcanus, 1st century BCE), got the Romans involved in Judea when they asked the Romans to settle a dispute. At first the Romans were cordial; and they actually became party to a military treaty with Judea (Talmud, Avodah Zara 9a). A couple of decades later, however, they unilaterally abrogated the treaty, and placed Roman governors over the land who afflicted the Jews with crushing taxation (Talmud, Yoma 9a). In the first two centuries CE, things got worse, with the Romans destroying the Second Temple and temporarily outlawing Torah-observances, and the Jews attempting to revolt. The Romans destroyed large numbers of Jewish communities in the Holy Land, and they killed some of the leading Jewish sages.(During those times that the Romans didn't interfere with the internal life of the Jews, the reason was because the Romans wanted to receive their taxes. That, and making sure none of their colonies planned rebellions, was usually the only thing that the Romans were really concerned about.)
By refusing to listen and obey the laws of the hellenists. And to keep their roots as Jews, and the laws of the Torah unbroken. Usually resulting in death.Answer:Unfortunately, as with assimilation today, many did not resist it. Those who did resist it were involved in the events leading up to Hanukkah:The Seleucids (Syrian-Greeks) under Antiochus Epiphanes (2nd century BCE), at the instigation of the Hellenizers, had forbidden various Torah-practices such as Sabbath-observance and circumcision. One of the leading elder Jewish sages called upon the people to keep observing the Torah anyway; and if necessary, to use force in resisting the decrees. When a Hellenized Jew offered a sacrifice to the Greek idols in a nearby village, the sage killed him as well as the Greek overseer. This brought a violent reaction from the Greeks; and the loyal Jews, led by the Hasmonean family, were forced to retreat from their towns and strike out at the Greeks in an attempt to oust them from the Holy Land and to enable the people to once again observe the Torah. The Torah-Jews were heavily outnumbered by the attacking Greek armies, but God gave them miraculous victories again and again. After three years of struggle, the Greek armies retreated from Jerusalem, and the Hasmoneans (also called Maccabees) entered the Holy Temple which the Greeks had defiled, reconsecrated it to God, and began the Temple service once more. Among other things, they wanted to relight the olive oil candelabrum (Exodus ch. 25), but could only find one day's supply of undefiled oil - and it would take eight days to make and bring some more.Miraculously, the menorah stayed lit for eight days (Talmud, Shabbat 21b), allowing enough time for new oil to be prepared and brought. The Torah Sages instituted the festival of Hanukkah at that time (Talmud, Shabbat 21b).This is what Hanukkah represents: the closeness to God; and the avoidance of Hellenization (assimilation). It should also be noted that the main goal for which the Maccabees fought was not political independence. They fought to enable the people to observe the Torah's commandments; as we say in the Al Hanisim prayer: "The Greeks (and that includes the Hellenizers) sought to cause us to forget Your Torah and leave Your statutes."

The distance between the above places is 4721 miles. This distance is point to point straight distance. The actual distance may vary according to the flight path chosen. Also this is not the airport to airport precise distance.
The approximate distance between Babylon and Susa is approximately 150 miles (240 kilometers). The two ancient cities are located in present-day Iraq and Iran, respectively. The distance can vary depending on the specific route taken, but this is a rough estimate of the distance between the two historical sites.
The Kitos War (rebellion of the exile, 115-117) was a series of revolts by diaspora Jews in eastern Libya, Egypt, Cyprus, and Mesopotamia (Iraq), in which there were widespread killing of Roman citizens (200,000 in eastern Libya, 240,000 in Cyprus according to Cassius Dio). The rebellions were crushed by Roman legions, led mainly by Lusius Quietus. There were tensions between the Jewish population of the Roman Empire and Greeks and Romans. These escalated in the 1st century AD. There had been the Great Revolt of Judea (66-73).There was a persecution of large Jewish population in Alexandria, Egypt. In 115, the emperor Trajan fought against the Parthian (Persian) Empire and through Persian-held Mesopotamia (Iraq). Jewish rebels attacked the Roman small garrisons left in Trajan rear. There was also a revolt in eastern Libya which spread to Egypt and then to Cyprus. This encouraged revolt in Judea and a rebellion in the city of Lydda threatened the supply of grain from Egypt to Trajan's front. Cities with substantial Jewish populations in areas of northern Mesopotamia which had recently been conquered by Trajan (Nisibis, Edessa, Seleucia, Arbela) joined the rebellion and massacred the small Roman garrisons in their towns.
