Ireland suffered the potato famine.

It is know to the Irish as the Great Hunger, it was a period of mass starvation, disease, and emigration in Ireland between 1845 and 1852.

It was caused when potato crop's failed, due to blight, a disease that destroys both the leaves and the edible roots, or tubers, of the potato plant.
