The group that lived farthest west in the continental United States were the Indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest, such as the Coast Salish and Tlingit tribes. These groups inhabited areas along the coasts of present-day Washington, Oregon, and parts of British Columbia in Canada. They developed rich cultures centered around fishing, trade, and the abundant natural resources of the coastal region.
