All ideas of Marxism were violated in the USSR. Classes, money, government, production for sale: all these continued to exist, though Communism means they all disappear.
Both advocated state capitalism, where the government owns the means of production and most people still have to work for a wage. They did not stand for Communism, which means that abolition of the wages system and establishment of a classless society.

communist countries led by the Soviet Union
Joseph Stalin
In a letter to the Communist Party of the USSR in 1963, the Communist Party of the Peoples Republic of China attacked the Soviet policy known as "peaceful coexistence". Based on earlier declarations of international Communist goals stated in 1957, agreed upon by all major Communist parties, the Soviet policy was a violation of the earlier agreed upon goals. The Chinese Communists accused the Soviet Union of discarding the historical mission of proletarian world revolution and to make matters even worse, it departed from the revolutionary teachings of Marxism-Leninism. In light of this, the USSR, as late as 1963, was considered a revisionist nation by Chinese Communists.

Lenin led the Communist Party at the time of the Russian Revolution, Russian Civil War, and into the 1920s. Stalin, Kruschev, and Breshnev all led the Communist Party at various times.
