This quote is often credited to pop culture legend Andy Warhol, who allegedly said in 1968 that "in the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes." This phrase has long since become an idiom-- "he got his fifteen minutes of fame." But recent research calls into question whether Warhol actually said it, or whether he was really the first person to say it. As it turns out, the phrase was already in existence, and others had already used it. Warhol himself noted in later interviews that he may never have said it at all; and whether he did or not, it is certainly true that he was not the first to use this expression. But because he was so well-known, the phrase stuck to him, as opposed to the others who said it before he ever did.
