He stopped it by sending federal troops into western pennsylvania to end the protest once and for all. The significance o this action was that it showed the strength of the federal gov't (government) under the Constitution because they no longer used the Articles of Confederation. It was a fitting response to an immediate threat to the federal government.
Hamilton viewed the Whiskey Rebellion as an opportunity for the federal government to assert its authority and demonstrate its ability to maintain order and enforce laws. The rebellion, sparked by opposition to a federal excise tax on whiskey, tested the strength of the new government established by the Constitution. By successfully quelling the uprising, Hamilton believed it would reinforce the legitimacy of federal power and promote respect for national laws, ultimately strengthening the federal government in the eyes of both citizens and foreign powers.
I have one reaction reported from Washington concerning the rebellion and it was after it was crushed. "Good God" is what is reported from Washington. He felt that only a Tory or Briton could have predicted such disorders. Since he wasn't president until 1789 that is the only thing I have that shows how he felt. Jefferson, on the other hand, wrote to Adams "This commotion will terminate in additonal strength to the government." He was right. It was one of the events that will push Congress towards a constitutional convention.

George Washington's strength was physical strength....
The Whiskey rebellion was caused by the unfair tax that was placed on whiskey., Farmers then got together with each other to from a armed protest, where Washington and his troops crushed their rebellion.

the British was to stop the rebellion quickly before the colonist could get France and Spain to join. Washington's was to fight where he had to and then retreat saving strength for next time battle.
The strength of the federal government helped to put the rebellion to rest. Shay's Rebellion is thought to be one reason why people rallied behind the Constitution.
it's called a SWOT
The Whiskey Rebellion started in 1791 and occured because farmers were upset by the additional taxes put on Whiskey during George Washington's presidency. Because of the powers of the new United States Constitution (which were much stronger than those of the previous Afticles of Confederation) the rebellion was crushed. This showed the strength of the new strong federal government. It caused the Washington administration to be viewed as a success. It upped the public approval for the new government. It demonstrated the ablility and willingness of the government to quell violent uprsings in violent ways.

Shay's Rebellion showed the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation. When the central government couldn't put down the rebellion, the first stirrings of federalism began to gather strength. The British, of course, did not recognize the Declaration and continued to send troops to contain the rebellion.
