One Crow Chief grew his hair so long that it had to be bundled, wrapped and carried like a package when he walked - he was known as "Long Hair" or "He Who Ties His Hair Before" (see link below for the painting of this Crow Chief by George Catlin).

George Armstrong Custer of the US 7th Cavalry wore his hair longer than some other officers for some time during and after the American Civil War; he had many names among native American people, such as "Long Hair" and "Yellow Hair", but his Arikara scouts called him "Son of the Morning Star".

For men, not particularly. People give much too much credence to hair length and style of the American Indian. For most tribes, it was a matter of choice for men, and like all society, it was whatever style was the most popular at the time. For women, however, many tribes had taboos to cutting their hair. The Mohegan, for instance, cut their hair only upon their announcing of their intent to marry. Some women in tribes would chop their hair off in a public display of mourning.
