At Genghis Khan's, the area that today is known as Afghanistan was called Khorasan. he destroyed many cities in afghanistan, but he was never able to conquer afghanistan; although he was able to occupy it. he lost many battles there, one in central afghanistan and another one where his grandson was killed. However there isn't that much of a record available during his campaign in afghanistan.

I disagree with the above answer. He was able to conquer afghanistan, but unlike his other conquests, he brutally murdered the entire population of khwarizistan. If there is not much records available, how would you know about his defeats? (reply to above answer).
