On Nov. 5, 1733, Zenger started the New York Weekly Journal, a political paper criticizing the policies of the Crown's Governor, William Cosby.

Zenger wrote very few of the articles himself, but was still legally responsible for the content because he was the publisher.

He was acquitted in the subsequent libel suit in 1735.

This was the first notable victory for Freedom of the Press in the English Colonies.
