Juan Bautista De Anza led an expedition to establish a land route from Mexico to California. The Spanish government wanted to expand their territory in North America and strengthen their presence in the region. De Anza's expedition aimed to colonize and establish Spanish control in California.
Ferdinand Magellan
Ferdinand Magellan was the Portuguese explorer who led a Spanish expedition to circumnavigate the world. The expedition began in 1519 and lasted for four years to 1522 when his crew returned home without Magellan. Magellan died in 1521.
Zebulon Pike led an expedition in 1806-1807 to explore the southern portion of the Louisiana Territory. He was captured by Spanish forces near present-day Pueblo, Colorado, and taken to Mexico before being released and allowed to continue his exploration. Pike's expedition provided valuable information about the American Southwest.
