The First war of Independence was fought in 1857 and thereafter for the next 90 years many a great leaders contributed in leading the Freedom movement. In 1876 Swami Dayanand Saraswati first proclaimed the word of Swarajya (meaning total freedom self governance) which Naoroji, Tilak, Shyamji Krishan Verma, Madam Cama, Veer Sawarkar, Gandhi, Netaji Subhash Chander Bose and many more carried and led the country to Independence by nonviolent and violent revolutionary means.
