There were two types of Roman theater. One was in connection with the celebration of religious festivals and the other was simply for pure entertainments. In the first type, the emperor, senate and the elite would attend. In the second type anyone from the wealthy to the poor would/could attend. The seating was according to class with the elite having the best seats with the poor and the women in the rear.
