Experimental Planes

  • He 178 (Heinkel) - 1st Aircraft to fly with a turbo jet engine.
  • He 280 (Heinkel) - Worlds 1st Jet fighter. Cancelled in favour of Me 262
  • He 343 (Heinkel) - 4 engined bomber/recognisance. Never flew
  • Hs 132 (Henschel) - Dive bomber. Factory captured by Red Army before test flights.
  • Ho 229 (Horten) - Flying wing jet fighter. Also designated Go229.
  • H.XVIII (Horten) - Enlargement of the Ho.229 into a 4 engined bomber to reach USA.
  • Ju 287 (Junkers) - Concept multi-engined bomber. Captured by Red Arm before a prototype was built.

Operational Jet planes

  • Me 262 (Messerschmitt) - Worlds 1st operational jet. Was originally assigned to the bomber role supposidly due to Hitler but was later used effectively as a fighter against US bomber formations.
  • He 162 (Heinkel) - The Luftwaffe 2nd operational jet. Was possibly the fastest of all the 1st generation jet fighters at 562 Mph (602 Kph)
  • Ar 234 (Arado) - The worlds 1st operational jet bomber.

Operational Jet Cruise Missile

  • Fi 103 (Fieiseler) - V1 - Worlds 1st Cruise Missile. This un-manned vehicle was powered by a Ram Jet had an overall range of 150 miles (250 km). Many were shot down prior to hitting there target. Was also involved in the 1st jet to jet engagement when The British Gloster Meteor was tasked with shooting them down.

Operational Rocket Planes

  • Me 163 (Messerschmitt) - The fastest operation fighter of WWII. Using rocket propulsion it had a fantastically quick rate of climb but payed the price with a very short mission time.

Operational Rocket Ballistic Missiles

  • P4 (Mittelwerk) - V2 - Worlds 1st ballistic missile. Powered by a methanol/ liquid Oxygen rocket. It reached a speed of 3,580 mph (5,760 Kph) and was able to hit targets 200 miles (350 km) from its launch site. There was no defence other than hoping it missed its target.
