The war started because Great Britain didn't want America to trade anymore with England, so they went in and said that they wanted all the British sailors that were onboard a ship that traded.
Soon, they started to take some of the American sailors too, so they could stop the whole trading of England and America. This lead to The War of 1812. There was a treaty signed after 2 years of fighting and 1 year later word still hadn't reached the south where New Orleans was and Andrew Jackson (General in comand of the Americans) told his troops to get ready to fire at the
British. So in the end the battle at New Orleans happened for no reason, it's just that word didn't get there fast enough.

One result of the War of 1812 was later election to the presidency of war heroes Andrew Jackson and of William Henry Harrison.
