Joan of Arc rallied the French troops to defeat the English during the latter part

(1429) of the Hundred Years War. Her courage, inspiration and leadership of

the French soldiers resulted in the defeat of the invading English in several

important battles, mainly the raising of the siege of Orleans and the Battle of Patay,

where over 2000 English were killed in an open field battle. A famous

English commander, Sir John Talbot, was captured in this engagement.

Joan then conducted the dauphin (French prince) to Rheims where he was

crowned Charles VII of France.
