João II (John the Second), of the Joannine dinasty, born on March 3th, 1455, was the 13th King of Portugal since August 28th, 1481 (when his father Afonso V "the African" died) until his death on October 25th, 1495. He was known as "Tirano" (The Tyrant). He gave impulse to overseas exploration and colonization, turning Portugal into a global power.
