Millicent Fawcett was the founder and leader of the first suffragist society: The National Union of Women's Suffrage Societies.

This was created when two other societies became merged and Millicent Fawcett became the leader of both.

This started more prominent action, what we learn about today, as the other societies previously mentioned didn't do much for the cause. It was this new society that started to get women's suffrage a more well-known issue.

Hope that helped :)
