The Egyptian Priests would holds ceremonies with incense and gold to honour the dead. They would often be held in the entrance of the Pyramids, where hundreds of people would audience. In these ceremonies, they would 'communicate with the dead' Pharaohs, allowing them to 'speak' with them. They did not necessarily 'travel back and forth between the living and the dead', as that possibility is quite incapable, only communication was celebrated.
