Erich Alfred Hartmann (19 April 1922 - 20 September 1993),

Hartmann was a German World War II fighter pilot and still is the highest-scoring fighter ace in the history of aerial warfare.

He goes by many nicknames:

  • "Bubi" by his comrades
  • "The Black Devil" by his Soviet enemies
  • and due to his charming good looks, "The Blonde Knight" by his admirerers.
