'Hitler's Merlin' is the nickname commonly given to Karl Haushofer, a professor of geopolitics at Munich University who played a prominent behind-the-scenes role in the Nazi party. He was a personal acquaintance of Hitler and helped him write Mein Kampf, afterwards serving as the intellectual face of the Nazi party and pushing for an alliance with Japan. He was the author of the Axis Pact and orchestrated the Apollo Pact, both vital to Germany's WWII strategy.
