After HIH Prince Naruhiko resigned, Kijuro Shidehara (Shidehara, was his family name), was appointed Prime Minister. Shidehara was the first Post WWII Prime Minister of Japan.

Shigeru Yoshida, (Yoshida, was his family name) was then elected in 1947, as Prime Minister and re-elected in 1949. He was elected for a total of 5 terms, as Prime Minister through December 1954.
