In 1605, Guy Fawkes was arrested in the House of Lords as part of the Gunpowder Plot, a conspiracy to blow up the Parliament and assassinate King James I. Fawkes was discovered guarding explosives that had been placed beneath the House of Lords. His arrest led to the unraveling of the plot and the eventual execution of several conspirators. The event is commemorated annually in the UK on Guy Fawkes Night.
