Bravery is hard to measure and takes many forms. Acts of bravery may not be witnessed by anyone or even understood as feats of courage. Washington, Monroe, Jackson, W. H. Harrison, Taylor, Hayes,T. Roosevelt, Truman, Kennedy and George H. W. Bush all demonstrated courage under fire in military actions. It would be hard to say that one was braver than the rest. Lincoln took courageous stands on preserving the union and facing assassination attempts and making visits to the front lines. Washington, John Adams and Jefferson risked their fortunes and lives when they took active roles in the revolution.
