Warsaw, it was the largest Jewish ghetto of all.
Warsaw was a ghetto, but life was very poor for all jews.
Benjamin made his way to the non-Jewish part of Warsaw. His Jewish identity was eventually discovered and he was killed.
The first attempt to set up a ghetto had been made by the SS in November 1939. In mid-November 1940 the Jewish ghetto in Warsaw was sealed off by a high wall. The Nazis did not use the term ghetto, but referred to the area as Jüdischer Wohnbezirk meaning Jewish Quarter.
the Nazis created scenes in which they made the Jewish inhabitants play roles and showed them as propaganda films.
The Nazis ultimately contrilled it, but they made a Jewish council run it.
they each had their councils, Jewish council/council of elders, of these each had a leader, for example Rumkowski in Lodz and Czerniakow in Warsaw.
the day-to-day running was done by the council, the council was taken from the inhabitants.
Everyone was Jewish! It was a strictly 'all Jewish' place.
In 1940 the Nazis designated an area of Warsaw as the ghetto (Jewish quarter). All non-Jewish Poles were ordered out of the area, and all Warsaw Jews were ordered into the area. It was then surrounded by high walls and patrolled ... It was a death trap.
Warsaw, it was the largest Jewish ghetto of all.
Please do not confuse the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising of April-May 1943 with the much larger Warsaw Uprising of August-October 1944 by the Polish resistance (Home Army). In the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising (April-May, 1943) a small number of Jews still in the Warsaw Ghetto rose in rebellion against the Judenrat and the Nazis. Obviously, they did not stand a chance against the SS, but at least they went down fighting. The Nazis burned down every building in the ghetto. The later Warsaw Uprising of 1944 was unrelated to the earlier ghetto uprising, though a handful of the 34 Jewish survivors of the ghetto uprising, such as Zivia Lubetkin, took part in both.---After the supression of the uprising the Warsaw Ghetto or part of it was turned into a concentration camp, but very little is known about that camp.
Warsaw - it was also the largest ghetto.
The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising took place in May-June 1943. There had been some resistance earlier.
Warsaw was a ghetto, but life was very poor for all jews.
The 'Aryan Side' was a simple way of referring to the non-Jewish side of the wall, in other words to the Polish section of Warsaw.
The question is a bit vague. It was the home of Warsaw's Jewish population and when the Nazis decided to send them to the camps, they targetted the Ghetto.
