The Diggers were one of many groups calling for reform in England following the widespread political unrest after the Civil war in England. The economy was in ruins and people were hungry. They were called Diggers as they wanted to settle on waste or overgrown ground and provide food for themselves. Above all the movement wished to be peacefull.
