Fundamentalists believed that alcohol did not cause moral decay or societal issues, contrary to the views of many reformers of the time. They argued that excessive drinking was a personal failing rather than a consequence of alcohol itself. Instead of seeing alcohol as a root cause of problems, they often attributed issues like crime and poverty to broader social and moral failings. This perspective contributed to their advocacy for Prohibition, as they sought to promote a more virtuous society.
