The Battle of New Orleans was fought on April 25-May 1, 1862, if you call it that. The Union navy sailed up the Mississippi River and shelled Forts Jackson and St. Phillip, then occupied the city without any casualties. New Orleans had been captured by the Union without a battle in the city itself.

The commanders were Flag-Officer David G. Farragut and Maj. Gen. Benjamin Franklin Butler [US]; Maj. Gen. Mansfield Lovell [CS]

[This battle is not to be confused with the Battle of New Orleans in 1814.]
