Who were the key people in the Trail of Tears?

There is no record of the actual names of the persons who traveled the Trail of Tears; in fact they can only estimate the number that died, much less of the actual people that died. As a general statement, the people that died were Native American Indians of the Cherokee, Creek (Muscogee), Chickasaw, Choctaw and Seminole tribes.

Obviously the Cherokees and the Americans were important in this event, but one really important person is Andrew Jackson, who is pretty much the cause of it. He signed the Indian Removal Act of 1830.

They died from starvation as they were given very little food. Water was scarce as well. In addition, the trail was rugged and difficult for the sick, elderly, and young, with some dying from exhaustion. Disease was rampant as well with the major two being typhus and small pox. These and many more illnesses were contracted in containment camps before their complete removal or by lowered immune efficiency because of malnutrition or starvation.
