Before the Normans invaded in 1169,Ireland was ruled by Irish Kings, or Great Families.
Native Irish held kingdoms of Ulster,Connacht,Leinster and Munster, who passed their time skirmishing with each other. Hiberno-Danes held cities and towns on the coast, such as Dublin and Waterford.
The better armed Normans had swiftly conquered all of the East Coast, and built fortified towns, and had soon become less and less concerned with the wishes of the English King. In return, dissension was encouraged and their enemies assisted.
So by 1270,the Normans held about two-thirds of the country, and the Irish the rest.

Ireland from 400 AD to 800 AD was essentially run by the clans. While the British did have a presence up north, most of Ireland remained nomadic in nature. The clans would often fight each for supremacy over a certain piece of land or region.

If you were starting out in 1300 AD, that would be 7 centuries ago, as the 14th century (1300s) is the 1st century after the 13th century (1200s). To clarify, the 1st century AD began in the year 1, so by 1300, it had been 13 full centuries since then. Therefore, 1300 AD is 13 centuries from year 0, but when counting backward, it is 7 centuries ago from now (2023).

To calculate the number of years between 1300 BC and 2011 AD, you add the years before Christ (1300) to the years after Christ (2011). Since there is no year zero, the total is 1300 + 2011 = 3311 years. Thus, there are 3311 years between 1300 BC and 2011 AD.
