The Sadducees were a Jewish sect that emerged during the Second Temple period, primarily composed of the priestly and wealthy elite. They were known for their strict adherence to the written Torah and rejected the oral traditions upheld by the Pharisees. The Sadducees did not believe in concepts such as the resurrection of the dead or the existence of angels, which set them apart from other Jewish groups of the time. Their influence waned after the destruction of the Second Temple in 70 CE.
