The American flag is always folded into a triangle at any formal event. either that or anyone who knows how to fold the flag will fold it into a triangle at any event.
Proper flag protocol dictates that whenever the flag is properly folded (not just military funerals) it is folded so that the Union (blue with white stars) is on the outside and showing.
