Some people think it saved many American lives because they didn't have to invade the actual island of Japan. It is estimated that around 1 million U.S. soldiers would have died in the invasion. More than that including all the casualties.

Also it stopped the USSR from demanding joint occupation of Japan and showed our superiority to them.

The Manhattan Project cost the government around $2 billion so it would be a waste not to use the product.

Lastly, the Japanese treated the U.S. POWs very cruely. Using the atomic bomb may have been a way of revenge for many people.
