The capital city of the Polish Commonwealth was moved from Krakow to Warsaw at the end of 16ht century. There were a number of reasons for that - central location within the Commonwealth, the parliament gathering and royal elections took place traditionally in Warsaw. There were claims for the Swedish crown and it was easier to drive diplomacy from Warsaw, plus the royal court in Krakow was partially destroyed by fire in 1595.
