Although the fear of a tyrant king was not what drove Cassius to plot the murder, it gave him and Brutus an excuse. Also, Caesar allowed himself to trust too freely in these men, giving them they opportunity to make their move.

Julius Caesar was on an ever upward spiraling power grab. Emperor was his next ambition followed by deification-he was clearly drunk with power. The political elite had endured just about enough and weren't ready to take a back seat to the new divo-no matter how beloved he was by the people.
