Actually, they didn't make laws stricter. As an example the tea tax was lowered instead of the higher tax fable. They tried to enforce laws and it was impossible since they were several thousand miles from home base . They did arrest people and put them on prison ships in New York harbor, but it was hard to regulate the colonies.

The Colonies protested England's new laws by dumping English tea into the harbor and refusing to pay taxes on it. This event is considered the beginning of the American Revolution.
Slave laws established in the Southern colonies were heavily influenced by the need to control the large enslaved populations and ensure the economic viability of plantation agriculture. These laws, such as the Slave Codes, were shaped by existing English legal traditions and colonial experiences, which emphasized the protection of property rights, including enslaved individuals as property. Additionally, fears of rebellion and social unrest among enslaved people prompted stricter regulations and punishments, reinforcing a system of racial hierarchy and oppression.
The three significant English laws passed in the 1600s that established trade rules for the British colonies in North America were the Navigation Acts. The first act, enacted in 1651, mandated that certain goods produced in the colonies, known as "enumerated goods," could only be shipped to England or English colonies. Subsequent acts in 1660 and 1663 expanded these regulations, requiring that trade with the colonies be conducted on English or colonial ships and mandating that goods imported to the colonies had to pass through England first. These laws aimed to bolster England's economy and control colonial trade.
Generally speaking, Ashkenazi laws of kashrut are stricter.

The Navigation Laws said that goods carried to and from the Colonies had to be carried on English ships. This prompted English ships to be used for the taking of goods much like the pirates did.
